People with dementia often communicate their needs through actions rather than words.
“The Language of Distressed Behaviors” educates family and professional caregivers about understanding nonverbal communication in people with dementia and alleviating discomfort.
The presentation by Maribeth Gallagher will be given Sept. 25 at Hospice of the Valley’s West office, 9435 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria, 85345. Gallagher, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and doctor of nursing practice, directs the not-for-profit agency’s dementia program.
Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., with the program running from noon to 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided at this no-cost event.
