People with dementia often communicate their needs through actions rather than words. Understanding their message—and using a soft approach to respond—leads to positive results and avoids conflict.
“The Language of Distressed Behaviors,” a presentation by dementia expert Maribeth Gallagher, educates family and professional caregivers about nonverbal communication in people with dementia. Gallagher, a nurse practitioner and doctor of nursing practice, directs Hospice of the Valley’s dementia program.
Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30, with the program running from noon to 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided at this no-cost event, which takes place at the not-for-profit agency’s northeast office, 16117 N. 76 St., Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
Register by Oct. 26 at (602) 636-5394 or events3@hov.org. Healthcare professionals seeking continuing education credit will receive 1.5 CNE or NCIAB credit. The public is welcome.
